Tsutsugamushi Disease Skyrockets in Korea
The number of cases of tsutsugamushi disease, or scrub typhus, has been soaring in Korea in the past few years.
According to the Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention on Monday, the number of tsutsugamushi patients increased from 1,919 in 2002 to 4,698 in 2004 to 6,420 in 2006.
Since 1993 when the disease was first designated an infectious disease in Korea, the number of cases has increased more than 25 times.
People come down with tsutsugamushi disease after being bitten by an infected chigger, usually after September. The disease has an incubation period of about ten days and is accompanied by high fever, blood-shot eyes, headaches, muscle pain and rashes.
Professor Peck Kyong-ran at Samsung Medical Center said, "Generally tsutsugamushi patients are easily cured by antibiotics, but the early symptoms of the disease are liable to be misunderstood as a cold. If people neglect the disease for too long it can cause heart failure or fatal pneumonia. If you have cold-like symptoms in autumn, or if you're bitten by an insect or you develop rashes on your body, see a doctor immediately."

Sounds similar to Lyme's disease usually caught from tick bites.
I'd never heard of Chiggers before today when I read the word on the dpreview.com forums and Googled it. And now you mention it also - strange that!
Why are there so many things trying to bite us?!
what i find so strange is that within a week's time, i was either given (by you and by that guy whose room i'm moving into) or came across online (a flickr forum) the dpreview.com website _3_ times! lol.
