in fact it was fun.
i was nervous for reasons that, in the end, made no difference whatsoever to begin with. i worried that my outfit wasn't "right". i wore high heels, patterned black stockings, an above the knee black flirty skirt (so far, so good) .... and (wait for it ....) a librarian-esque turtleneck which i thought was too conservative for speed dating. but in the end it made no difference. in fact, i could argue that it was strategically selected to focus attention on my legs. =)
and there wasn't anyone there, with the exception of the drunk Texan who said he wants to be a post-apocalyptic war lord, who i wouldn't mind seeing again for at least a possible male companion. i liked meeting each new person. i met Russians, Brazilians, Koreans, Americans, Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders and Italians.
there were 20 guys there. but there wasn't enough time to really get to know anyone ~ 4 minutes goes by so darn quickly. since the coordinator over booked the guys expecting no-shows (which there were no no-shows in the guy group and two no-shows in the gal group) there were only 15 speed dates (only 15 women i suppose) so that meant there were 5 men left over. i purposefully went around to try to meet those men after the actual speed dating was over. and that's when i met Ben from Australia who i will mostly likely be referring to as Ben2 since Ben1 is taken. Ben2 and i exchanged contact info directly before the night was over.
anyway, we still haven't heard the results from the coordinator about any possible matches. after the speed dating we each privately listed those men/women we want to date again. for those who have listed each other, the coordinator will exchange the contact info. i listed 3 people on my sheet but really it could have been more. by the end of speed dating i completely forget who was who and i couldn't read my own chicken scratch notes.
today i got a call from the coordinator. she told me about one of the speed daters. he put only one name on his list, mine. although i had a good impression of him and wouldn't mind seeing him again, i didn't put his name on my list, after all, he gave me his business card. well this guy apparently called the coordinator today to find out if i listed him and when he found out that i hadn't, he asked the coordinator for my contact info, (i'm assuming that's what prompted her to call me). a rather unorthodox post-speed dating tactic, but it may just have worked ... two days ago i almost sent him an email but decided i wasn't sure yet about doing so and told myself to hold off on it. i tucked his business card away while getting a feeling that in a week's time the world would somehow let me know if i should email him or not. i think the world has somehow let me know.
one of the woman at the Seoul Speed Dating event was a woman that i had met once before at a CouchSurfing event i attended with Ben1. so i thought that was cool to bump into someone from my recent past. this time she and i exchanged numbers.
here's a picture from that night, taken by one of the speed dating guys. click photo for source.
