so, after asking around i heard that it takes about 3 months if you go once a week to learn all the Beginner I Salsa moves and then you can advance to Beginner II Salsa.
they have a set number of dance movies that they teach for Beginner I. Until i get my hands on that list, i'm compiling a list of my own from memory. having this list will help me when i want to memorize the various moves i've learned as well as practice in my room or check out the dance movies on yahoo video and thus help me advance to Beginner II Salsa and thus become a better Salsa dancer.
