when in korea, doubt

2 years and 2 months means nothing - you can still get on bus 88-1 at Deokso Station thinking it's headed toward your school (because the front of the bus says so) and end up driving out into the sticks; i mean grazing oxen--, rows upon rows of greenhouses--, one-laned dirt roads--, where bus stops become less and less defined, until they are nothing more than a bend in the road--, where you're sure you've become irreconcilably lost-- sticks. getting off and hailing a cab is what you'd consider doing in Seoul but a quick survey of your surroundings conveys the idea that ~this bus~ is ~this town's~ only form of public transportation and alighting would only compound your problem.

53 minutes later you arrive back where the ride began, at Deokso Station,
  • not any closer to work,
  • bladder full of water,
  • three lessons in need of final preparation, and
  • 23 minutes left to
    • go pee,
    • get on the right bus,
    • get to school, and
    • be there,
    • smiling,
    • happy and
    • ready for the chaos that is teaching English to preschoolers
did you make it?

hellya, you did.

were your armpits moist and damp?

hellya, they were.

2 years and 2 months means nothing - you can still be fooled by assuming logic and reason work as they usually do in other parts of the world

lessons learned:
  • when in doubt, ask
  • when in korea, doubt
