holy mother of all coincidences

today i went art hopping.

i was having trouble communicating with the bus drivers to get to a way-out-of-the-way art museum and consequently i got off and got on a couple of buses as i followed the finger pointing instructions given to me by these bus drivers. eventually i started seeing the same things twice and that's when i got fed up and figured that i was just wandering around town on a bus with a driver that wasn't going to hook me up with a notice of where i'd need to get off (i told him the name of the bus stop of my destination when i got on his bus and expected him to give me a heads up when i needed to get off) but i had a sneaky feeling that he had forgotten and that i may have had already missed my stop. i was pissed at him for no apparent reason (really i was just pissed i couldn't ask where the hell i was or understand any answer given to me) so i made a snap decision that i'd get off at the next stop and get on the next bus with the same number and try my luck with that bus' driver. so i pressed the buzzer and got off the bus, waited for the next bus to come and when it did, i got on and asked in my broken korean if the bus was going to "olympia hotel" and wouldn't you know ... i was ~at~ the Olympia Hotel bus stop. holy mother of all coincidences. (the bus stop however, was no longer named "olympia hotel" for some reason not known to me and that is why i didn't know i was at the right spot; it was called "Lotte Apartments" and i'm not even sure that the Olympia Hotel still exists ... maybe the Lotte Apartments took it's place.)

so perhaps that bus driver was going to stop there and let me know that was my destination but i may have beat him to the buzzer. :-) and now i feel really guilty that i got pissed at him. and then i was reminded of this really CUTE story, sent to me courtesy of my dad, about and girl, a guy and a bag of cookies at an airport. have you read it before? (I edited a little bit of it to make it more personal to me.)

~~~
A young lad was waiting for her flight in the boarding room of a big airport.
As she would need to wait many hours, she decided to buy a book to spend her time. She also bought a packet of cookies.
She sat down in an armchair, in the VIP room of the airport, to rest and read in peace.
Beside the armchair where the packet of cookies lay, a man sat down in the next seat, opened his magazine and started reading.
When she took out the first cookies, the man took one also. She felt irritated but said nothing. She just thought: "What nerve! If I was in the mood I would give him a good telling off!"
For each cookie she took, the man took one too. This was infuriating her but she didn't want to cause a scene.
When only one cookie remained, she thought: "ah... What's this jerk gonna do now?" Then, the man, taking the last cookie, divided it into half, giving her one half.
Ah! That was too much! She was much too angry now! In a huff, she took her book, her things and stormed to the boarding area.
When she sat down in her seat, in side the plane, she looked into her purse to take out her eyeglasses, and to her surprise, her packet of cookies was there, untouched, unopened!
She felt so ashamed! She realized that she was wrong. She had forgotten that her cookies were kept in her purse.
The man had divided his cookies with her, without feeling angered or bitter while she had been very angry, thinking that she was dividing her cookies with him. And now there was no chance to explain herself ... nor to apologize.
There are 4 things that you cannot recover:
1. The stone after the throw.
2. The word after it's said.
3. The occasion after the loss.
4. The time after it's gone.
Holy mother of all coincidences! That was a great story! Both yours and the fantasy. Don’t you just love Dad? I agree with Jan – he can really be a surprise sometimes. He lives his life easily, never looking for an uphill battle, but handling challenges if they should arrive. He avoids controversy like the plague, but when it appears out of nowhere, he calmly diffuses it with thoughtful silence or a neutral remark. He is unpretentious to a fault - what you see is all there is – and he’s so confident with just that. His story is filled with wisdom – but I’ll bet he doesn’t even realize that!
