open mouth, enter Chinese foot

so last night, one of the male students from class, korean btw, joined HeeJoo and me on our way over to the Latin club where we finally had the chance to exchange the basics of a typical introduction:

what's your name?
how many times have you danced at the studio?
are you an english teacher?
what do you do?
oh, you're studying korean?
한국어 잘 말으수 있어요?
아니요, 잘 못해요.
etc.

then came the odd ball question directed toward me, from the guy: can you speak Chinese? i said no. then he said something to me in Chinese but what (i guess) he didn't predict (and what i wasn't aware of) was that HeeJoo can speak Chinese! without even missing a beat in the conversation's tempo she says, "oh! he says you are beautiful!" and unsympathetically laughs at being able to do so. i join her. the guy, a bit shocked but smiling just the same that his concealed compliment was comically exposed. then, once realizing HeeJoo's abilities, he said the same thing to her to which she replied with the timing of a shrewd rebutter, "no, it's too late!" with a turn of the head and a talk-to-the-hand motion.

i, only catching the english side of this conversation and guessing the rest, couldn't help but to laugh hysterically

HeeJoo is not only super clever - and not afraid to use her intelligence either - but she can dance, and i mean really boggie!! i couldn't keep my eyes off her, neither could any of the guys at the club.

can't wait for next Friday ~ laughing and dancing is a great way to unwind from the week-long stress of learning korean where there is no laughing or dancing.
