hey, i know you!

i don't feel so far removed from youngsters anymore. now, when i see a youngster i think, ' hey, i know you! ... well maybe not you personally but i know your kind. you think it's funny to poke teacher in the butt. you think it's funny when someone else pokes teacher in the butt. you bore easily. you love to sing songs and dance around the room. you'll work for hand stamps and smiley stickers. some of you love clapping. some of you love coloring. some of you love crying. you get so excited that you can break sound barriers. you crave order and need teacher to be in charge. you're fascinated with discipline and will tattle on your classmate if you feel you've been wronged. the worst crime one can commit against you is taking the seat you wanted. you have good days and bad days just like adults.'

the uncoolest thing about teaching little kids is that timing is everything; lasting lessons are the ones that only a skilled teacher can execute at those fleeting moments when little kids are receptive to learning a new lesson. the coolest thing about teaching little kids is the chance to have a lasting impression on them; to contribute and assist in their learning and growing.
